Pottery Barn Look Alike Bedskirt

For our Master bedroom makeover I bought the velvet linen windowpane comforter in taupe from Pottery Barn. It's puffy and soft and gives the bed the cozy look I was striving for. I also fell in love with their pleated, button bedskirt but decided to put my sewing skills to the test to see if I could make a look alike myself.

I made a trip to Lowes for the drop cloths and purchased the Blue Hawk brand. I suggest that before washing your drop cloths you look them over to make sure there aren't any flaws or marks on them that would ruin your project. I had one drop cloth that had a huge flaw and black marks on it that I had to exchange. I used drop cloth fabric for the decking of the bed skirt as well (the decking is the part under the mattress that the bed skirt is sewn to). Here is my finished version, I think it turned out pretty close. I love when that happens!

                                   I really like working with drop cloth fabric. It washes great, is easy to sew and hangs nicely.

   

       The fabric covered buttons were a big part of what drew me to this bed skirt. They add a nice detailed touch and are simple to make yourself. You can buy the button making kit at Hobby Lobby, Walmart or any fabric store.

Here are the pillows and shams in shades of rust and green that I made to use on the bed in the fall and winter.

I kept the bed skirt and comforter neutral so I would be able to switch out pillows in the summer and winter.  I made shams and pillows in turquoise for my summer color. I love being able to change the whole look and feel of the room so easily.

It's all in the details and these covered buttons inspired my bedroom curtain project that I will share with you later.
